Starthclyde Fire and Rescue Technical Rescue Training Centre

Standard FT96, a 3 storey with top cabin and side lattice climbing frame

Crofton Engineering were very pleased when approached by Strathclyde F&R and asked to design and build a bespoke fire tower to accomodate the more elaborate rope rescue scenarios they required at their upgraded training facility. Particularly they needed a tower on which they could provide specific training in pylon rescue and lowering and raising casualties.

Starting from a concept sketch, Crofton was able to customise one of its standard towers, completing the engineering design to add a top cabin and inclined lattice frame suitable for climbing.

As per the company's normal process, the tower was fabricated and fully assembled at the Linton factory and sent up to site on a 40ft artic trailer. The rest of the top structure and frame followed in sections on a separate trailer and it was then assembled on site site. The side frame was added to the tower whilst it was still on the ground and once the tower had been fixed into postion the top cabin was lifted into position.

Having proven an operational success, a second installation of the identical structure has been commissioned for Inverness Fire Station.
